Mitel (News - Alert) today announced that several of its solutions are now HIPAA compliant. That includes MiCloud Business, MiCloud Enterprise and Clearspan, and MiCloud Office.

HIPAA, stands for Health Insurance Portability and Accountabilty Act. Mandated in 1996 by the U.S. Health and Human Services Department, HIPPA details what organizations in the health care vertical – and the companies like Mitel that supply them with technology – need to do to secure protected health information and patient health data.

"Our organization is quite large, complex and features a growing ecosystem that lets patients and staff communicate through a variety of channels," said Lou Gallagher, Senior Director of Engineering and Architecture, HealthEast. "Mitel modernized our communications system to eliminate information silos, allow integrations with SaaS (News - Alert)-based tools like Epic and make it easier to access data we need to be more productive and improve interactions."

Bob Agnes, President and Executive Vice President of Products and Solutions at Mitel, added: "By upgrading to the latest technology, healthcare providers and staff can increase responsiveness and service quality. Mitel's solutions securely deliver seamless communications and collaboration capabilities to streamline day-to-day operations and enhance patient care."

This HIPPA news comes just a week after Mitel announced its rebranding of some of the solution it got via its ShoreTel (News - Alert) acquisition. As we explained last week, the company has renamed the ShoreTel Connect CLOUD to MiCloud Connect with Teamwork and Contact Center. And ShoreTel Connect ONSITE is now called MiVoice Connect with Connect UC and Contact Center.

The ShoreTel acquisition elevated Mitel to the No. 2 UC-as-a-Service market player. Mitel sells business phones and collaboration, contact center, and UC solutions. And it offers both cloud- and on premises-based solutions.

"North American businesses are rapidly moving to the cloud, but they are not all doing it at the same pace or with the same configuration,” said Bob Agnes, President and Executive Vice President of Products and Solutions at Mitel. “Our customers need choice and a clear technology path forward. Mitel's portfolio is purpose-built to provide maximum choice and flexibility to meet customers' immediate needs, solve their business problems, and move them ahead – where ever they are in their journey."

Mitel's own EVP of Global Sales and Services Todd Abbott (News - Alert) will be among the keynoters at ITEXPO 2018 in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida (Feb. 14-16), expanding on the topic of cloud, offering his expertise to companies looking to gain a competitive edge in their markets.  Mitel's Ryan Smith will also be presenting on how teams can become more successful using the latest communications and collaboration technology.  At the heart of it all?  Cloud.
