Masergy Acquired by Berkshire Partners

Berkshire Partners, a Boston-based investment firm, announced this week that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire a majority interest in Masergy Communications, Inc.

Masergy owns and operates an independent Software Defined Platform that delivers hybrid networking, managed security and cloud communication solutions to global enterprises. The company offers customizable solutions and works to offer the best customer experience possible, which is why a number of organizations choose Masergy for their solutions. In fact, the company serves enterprise clients in over 75 countries and has proven its worth when it comes to client experience through its 2016 Net Promoter Score of 70.


Masergy’s standing in the industry is why Berkshire Partners has made the decision to acquire it. Beth Hoffman (News - Alert), Managing Director at Berkshire Partners, discussed the company’s decision to go forth with the deal by saying, “Masergy’s innovative solutions and world class experience truly help businesses transform their IT environments and drive their digital transformation objectives.” She continued, “We believe the company’s highly differentiated solutions and superior client experience deliver a unique and compelling value proposition to enterprises around the world.”

It’s clear why Berkshire Partners is interested in Masergy; by acquiring the company, Berkshire Partners will be gaining access to a whole new audience and industry. It has developed industry experience in several areas including consumer and retail, business services, industrials, communications and transportation. By acquiring Masery, it is looking to gain knowledge of a new industry. Plus, since its founding, the company has invested in over 115 companies, so this decision is kind of a given. However, why is Masergy willing to allow Berkshire Partners in on its business?

According to Chris MacFarland (News - Alert), Chairman and CEO of Masergy, the decision was simply based on the fact that it is looking to grow. “We think Berkshire Partners is the ideal partner as we embark upon the next chapter of our growth strategy,” said MacFarland. “Berkshire brings the industry expertise required to help us fulfill our vision.”

Both sides seem to be excited about this decision. Masergy is looking forward to the opportunities Berkshire Partners can bring to the table, and vice versa. Tom Kuo, Managing Director at Berkshire Partners, expressed the company’s excitement by saying, “We are excited to partner with Chris and his exceptional team.” He continued, “Given the accelerating rate of change across the information technology landscape, there are significant opportunities for Masergy to continue its impressive growth and this is a team, company and culture that we are excited to invest behind.”
